About us
BIMCO is the world's largest international shipping association, with over 2,000 members in around 130 countries, representing 62% of the world’s tonnage. Our global membership includes shipowners, operators, managers, brokers, and agents. We are a non-profit organisation and have three areas of work: - We’ve been creating contracts and clauses since 1905. We believe that standardised terms create equality, fairness and support business, and we believe this matters. - We work to promote transparent and non-discriminatory standards and harmonisation within the shipping industry. - We offer a range of products in support of the wider shipping industry, not just our members, from our maritime training courses, our online contract editor SmartCon, ship performance tool SHIP PI and BIMCO publications.

Chinese shipyards’ market share drops from 72% to 52% amid USTR concerns. In the first half of 2025, China’s share of newbuilding contracting fell to 52% from 72% in the previous six months. Growing concerns over USTR port fees on Chinese ships in US ports likely contributed to a decrease in contracting in China. This trend was further amplified by a drop in global ship contracting and a shift in the types of ships being ordered. Are you a BIMCO member? Read the full market report: https://lnkd.in/dWNRyZnG

In recent days, two ships have been attacked in the Red Sea. Joint industry statement from ICS, BIMCO, European Shipowners | ECSA, INTERCARGO and INTERTANKO One has sunk and the other has suffered extensive damage. These vessels have been attacked with callous disregard for the lives of innocent civilian seafarers and as an inevitable but terrible consequence, seafarers have been killed. We join with the IMO Secretary General in his denunciation of the attacks and we call on all stakeholders to uphold the safety and security of innocent civilian seafarers as they pass through this vital waterway, carrying the food, goods and energy the world’s economy relies upon. This tragedy illuminates the need for nations to maintain robust support in protecting shipping and vital sea lanes. We urge that the international standards of freedom of navigation and the sanctity of human life are recognised, upheld and defended.
