Updates

  • Events like #COVID, rising geopolitical tensions, and the surge in e-commerce have re-shaped the #aircargo landscape. To reflect this, IATA has updated its Cargo Facility of the Future roadmap. The updated version presents a refreshed vision to help cargo facilities become smarter, more resilient and ready for the future. Read the white paper ⬇️ bit.ly/46vNlh7

  • Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is emerging as a key differentiator among airlines in reducing per-passenger flight emissions. As the aviation sector accelerates its decarbonization efforts, the extent to which each airline uses SAF should determine the environmental performance of its flights. However, a regulatory SAF mandate, such as a 3% delivery at a given airport, does not directly translate into a 3% reduction in emissions for each departing flight from that airport. The type and volume of SAF used by airlines plays a role. SAF mandates are typically imposed on fuel suppliers, not directly on airlines, leading to unequal distribution. Some airlines may secure a greater share of SAF through their supplier agreements, while others may use none at all. Fair flight emissions estimates should reflect actual SAF purchases by airlines and rely on calculators powered by airline-specific primary data, such as IATA’s CO2 Connect, allowing for meaningful comparisons. • Thank you to SITA for being part of IATA’s Strategic Partnership Program for 35 years — a platform that unites industry leaders to shape the future of #aviation. We look forward to continuing our collaboration. Strategic Partners benefit from exclusive insights, policy discussions, and high-impact networking opportunities that can culminate at the #IATAAGM.

In our industry, there’s no such thing as flying solo. As we come in to land after a busy summer season, millions take to the skies, often unaware of the invisible network of people, systems, and processes working in harmony to make #travel happen. From booking a ticket to stepping off the aircraft, each milestone of a passenger’s route depends on dozens of stakeholders. Airports, airlines, ground handlers, border agencies, technology providers, ... this interdependence matters even more in today’s climate. Nearly 5 billion passengers are expected to fly in 2025, and with current economic strains, collective action is essential. Air transport’s biggest priorities are missions we must solve in unison. As a member-owned organization, SITA shares much of its membership base with International Air Transport Association (IATA) — a connection that strengthens our shared mindset and drives us toward the connected ecosystem we envision. This also makes me reflect on this year’s #IATAAGM: moments like these let us step out of our day-to-day and deep dive into what our partners are working on, where their priorities lie, and how our roles intersect. After all, with journeys spanning multiple countries, systems, and stakeholders — solutions must work in sync on a global scale. And by aligning our #expertise our industry is fully prepared to deliver solutions that work cohesively across the entire ecosystem. https://lnkd.in/ekhkDkWg

  • Infrastructure, digitalization, sustainability, and smarter regulation are key priorities of the #AsiaPacific region as air travel demand continues to grow. With growth comes the need for stronger #collaboration between governments and industry, from contactless travel to capacity building and SAF production. • As electric cars, e-bikes, and other battery-powered products become more common, the need for reliable, compliant battery shipping practices becomes more critical 🌍 In this video, Scholastica Opiyo, Manager Dangerous Goods at IATA, shares how the Battery Shipping Regulations (BSR) manual helps manufacturers, retailers, freight forwarders, and others in the supply chain maintain consistency and accuracy when shipping batteries globally. Batteries are practical devices, but if they are not properly shipped, they can pose serious risks. The BSR manual provides the essential guidance to reduce those risks and ensure safe transport. 👉https://bit.ly/3zyljnl #aviation #batteries #shipping #manuals #aircargo

  • 🎉Congratulations to Virgin Atlantic on becoming one of the first airlines to achieve IATA certification for its Security Management System (SeMS). This certification marks a pivotal shift in how #aviation approaches #security, fostering a culture that is proactive, risk-aware, and committed to continuous improvement. Collectively we strengthen the trust of our stakeholders, including regulators, partners and, of course, passengers. #certification #aviation

We’re proud to have a strong culture of health, safety and security at Virgin Atlantic. Never complacent, our number one priority, always. This week Virgin Atlantic became one of the first airlines to be certified as part of International Air Transport Association (IATA)’s Security Management System (SeMS) programme – an international framework that enables airlines to ensure they apply the very latest industry best practice to risk management in a dynamic world. Thanks to Nigel Williams, Gareth C. Cross and all in the team for keeping us secure and leading this really important work for Virgin Atlantic and to IATA for their robust model, to build on our strong foundations with the UK Civil Aviation Authority and other regulators around the globe. Great to see our team collecting the certificate at IATA’s Geneva HQ with our IATA partners Matthew Vaughan, Nadia Belkebir, Yaniv Sorany.

  • As aviation’s largest and fastest-growing market, the Asia-Pacific is a center of aviation – but will it become a center of #sustainability? With the 2050 goal of #netzero carbon emissions on the horizon, the region must accelerate progress on SAF production, regulation and collaboration. ▶️ Watch Marie Owens Thomsen, IATA’s SVP Sustainability & Chief Economist, discuss Asia-Pacific’s sustainability challenges, IATA’s role in supporting the region’s efforts and the upcoming World Sustainability Symposium in Hong Kong. • Congratulations PT Jasa Angkasa Semesta, Tbk (JAS) for becoming the first ground handling company in Indonesia to receive IATA CEIV Fresh certification! 🎉 This milestone highlights JAS’ strong commitment to quality control and adherence to best practices in perishable #aircargo handling. #logistics #aviation #certification #perishables

🎉 A Proud Milestone for JAS Airport Services! Today, we celebrated our achievement as the first ground handling company in Indonesia to be accredited with the IATA CEIV Fresh certification. This recognition from the International Air Transport Association is a testament to our commitment to global standards in perishable cargo handling — from airport operations, storage, to transportation — ensuring the freshness and quality of Indonesia’s valuable export products, especially from the marine and fisheries sector. A special thank you to the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, IATA Asia-Pacific, our airline partners, industry associations, and the JAS team for making this achievement possible. #jasaangkasasemesta #groundhandling #casgroup

  • What started as a solution for managing ✈️overflight charges in Somalia has now evolved into an essential industry tool that manages #payment collection for more than 80 authorities. “IATA E&F means a stable and predictable cash flow for #airports and #ANSPs, and a one-stop shop payable manager for airline operators,” says Elie El Khoury, IATA’s Head of Enhancement and Financing Services. “It provides a clear picture of the financial landscape for all parties and reduces the friction between them.” As the team invests in new enhancements to reduce cost and improve efficiency, El Khoury is adamant that it needs to benefit all parties across the industry.
